Hepatitis C is mainly transmitted from person to person through blood contact. Therefore, almost every country has made it mandatory to screen blood donors for HCV. In order to produce a diagnostic kit, three to four of HCV antigens are used.

HBsAg is the surface antigen of the hepatitis B virus (HBV). It indicates the current hepatitis B infection. The viral envelope of an enveloped virus has different surface proteins from the rest of the virus which acts as antigens. Recombinant Enterokinase (rEK) is a highly purified enzyme manufactured by using Pichia Pastoris strain. Recombinant Enterokinase is a single glycosylated polypeptide chain containing 235 amino acids and having a molecular weight of ~43kDa. rEK recognizes the sequence Asp-Asp-Asp-Asp-Lys and cleaves the peptide bond after the lysine residue. One unit is defined as the amount of enzyme needed to cleave 50µg of a fusion protein in stipulated time and temperature conditions.
